One problem I see from my city is the lack of commercial options. In Phoenix Arizona I can arrive at most destinations with out having to go on a major street. The problem arises when I want to buy something.

I think this will be a great fit for the Twin Cities; I hate bike lanes, but I think bike boulevards will be more pleasant without being inconvenient. And our cities are *full* of underutilized streets. It's also pretty uncontentious in terms of through traffic and local people (uncommon for many proposed traffic changes). My sister is on one of the streets here planned to be converted to a bike boulevard (17th Ave)... and of course, why wouldn't you want that to happen on your street? You still get car access (parking, etc) and you get a much more pleasant street. Nearby car traffic benefits because it's better separated from bikes.
