Celebration of 20th Anniversary of ADA is July 26
The 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be celebrated Monday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Nicollet Island Pavilion, 40 Power St., Minneapolis, MN. Speakers and entertainers include comedian Josh Blue, former U.S. Sen. David Durenberger, ADA expert Peter Berg, and others. The free event includes box lunches, vendor booths and exhibits, accommodations (ASL interpreters, CART services, limited PCA assistance, and audio descriptors), and more.
Street design that meets the needs of people with disabilities can go a long way toward making the street friendly for all people to use pedestrian and transit infrastructure. Unfortunately, even recent reconstruction projects have not met the spirit of the law. For more information on designing accessible sidewalks and crossings, please see this manual from the National Center for Bicycling and Walking.
