Introducing StreetsTalk: a monthly event to reimagine streets

Our first topic: Sunday Streets, which filled San Francisco's 24th Street with activity (photo by Nick Perry, SF Planning Dept.)

Join Twin Cities Streets for People the last Tuesday of every month for a series of events aimed at sparking dialogue, connecting people and inspiring change.  The events will kick off this month with a discussion event about Ciclovias, or Open Streets.  Click here for a flyer about this month's event.

After a thought-provoking presentation from TC Streets for People's Melissa Constantine, participants will be invited to question, discuss and develop the idea of hosting an Open Streets event in the Twin Cities. Interested participants will be invited to join a working group that will develop this idea beyond the night's discussion.

This monthly event will rotate between topical discussions and good ol' fashioned happy hours.

The 2009 StreetsTalk Schedule:

July 28: Open Streets for the Twin Cities

August 25: StreetsTalk Happy Hour

September 29: Beyond PARKing Day, Permanent Solutions to Remake Streets for People

October 27: StreetsTalk Happy Hour

November 24: Discussion, topic TBD

Car-free Sundays in Mexico City

Hi!

This sounds like a great local initiative!

In case you're looking for more "best practice" examples, check out the video we produced about car-free Sundays, known as "Muevete en Bici (Get on Your Bike)" in Mexico City:

Let us know how your StreetsTalk goes!

Contested Streets

How about a screening of Contested Streets for November, or future date, followed by discussion and other model cities.

StreetsTalk

Contested Streets sounds like a great idea. I wonder if PSW is ever in town and could make a special guest appearance.
