Portland Police enforcement training video
Wed, 10/21/2009 - 1:21pm | by mlangVia Greg Raisman of the Portland Bureau of Transportation comes to us this great video that the Portland Police Department uses to educate its force about enforcement of traffic law in situations involving bicycles. The first incident the video covers is the "right hook" which is a common problem and will continue to be an issue on the new layouts of 1st and Hennepin Avenues in downtown Minneapolis. It would be great if Twin Cities municipalities and Police Departments looked into doing something similar to improve the effectiveness of traffic law enforcement in Minnesota.

This amazing video, via Chicago Bicycle Advocate, was produced for the Chicago Police Department to educate drivers, cyclists and officers on traffic laws pertaining to bikes ... here, interspersed with horror stories from civilian cyclists, we have actual police officers -- close to a dozen are listed in the credits -- instructing their colleagues not just to enforce the law, but to treat bike riders with respect as rightful users of the road.
The video is used for training Chicago Police Officers, and was created by the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Department of Transportation. The work was funded with a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety. More here: chicagobikes.org
